How to Become a Motorcycle Cop?

For more than a century, motorcycle cops are the most valued members of police organizations. They provide unique services and have a great capacity to allow the police to respond quickly to emergencies. Motorcycle cops protect the public from crimes and allow people to reach the crime scene by quickly clearing the traffic. Becoming a motorcycle cop is not a piece of cake, and you need to go through a series of examinations to reach your goal.  But how to become a motorcycle cop? Process of becoming a motorcycle cop

Since police departments do not have numerous motorcycle cop positions, you need to wait until there are openings. Suppose you have never been into a police officer training or patrol officer. In that case, you need to spend at least 3-10 years in the patrol officer position or apply for a police training program and graduate from the academy. As a motorcycle cop, your responsibility is to enforce traffic laws, deter crime, clear traffic for celebrity funerals, and attend special police events like motorcades and parades. 

Apply for a position at your local police station

As a first step, you need to apply for a police training program in the district or state, depending on where you want to work. Fill the recruit position application with the required paperwork and submit it. You need to complete background inquiry, criminal background checks, mental assessment, and physical tests to ensure you meet all the physical requirements. If you are a police officer already, you can skip all these steps. To be a qualified police officer, you need to be at least 18 years, finished high school diplomas with a clean criminal history.

Patrol officer:

Being a motorcycle cop is a type of patrol officer. There are no special academies to teach you how to be a motorcycle cop. Any police or patrol officer possessing a motorcycle license can apply for a motorcycle cop position. You need to attend training classes at the police academy for three to six months and finish the course. Once approved at the academy,  you need to study duties, radio signals, laws, and know your responsibilities as a motorcycle cop. Workout on how to pursue suspects, grapple, use your gun, and analyze the crime scene. Pass the final exam and appear in the physical test. Apply at the police department with a motorcycle unit. Establish your relationships with the head supervisors and prove yourself as a reliable candidate for the position.
